KEN HAMES

Ken grew up in a farming community and then joined the Army where he spent 30 years learning about leadership and teams.  Sixteen years in the SAS taught him that high performance and teamwork is derived from constant effort and reflection and having joined, as he calls it, the more dangerous world or civilian life, he seeks to impart that knowledge and experience into the business world.

Ken has a love of the great outdoors and tries where possible to integrate elemental experiences into his facilitation and coaching.  He is passionate about ‘leadership for all’ as a driver to create outstanding working environments while also committed to giving leaders the right tools to be as effective as possible.

Ken’s passion is getting to grips with business improvement and helping leaders make sense of complexity.

Last book you read…
"Underground Adventures” by Dave Haigh and John Cordingly – terrifying tales of the historical navigation of the labyrinth of underground ‘potholes’ and ‘caves’ in the Yorkshire dales –it’s hairy stuff particularly the cave dive called ’dead man’s handshake’.

Your heroes include…
Mother Theresa for her love, Violet Szarbo (SOE) for her courage and my Dad who fought years of post-traumatic stress from too much ‘war’ and three bullet wounds!

Favourite line from a film…
"A man has just got to know his limitations” Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry.

Best day at work (so far)…
Watching leadership teams break down barriers and move towards clarity and unified purpose.

Who make you laugh…
My wife who always leaves for the airport with her case still on the driveway!

What’s on your desk…
Paper diary (steam navigation!) and loads of mail I have not opened and a compass.

How do you deal with stress…
Go and climb a really difficult rock face  - its resets the level playing field!

3 people you’d like to have dinner with (dead or alive)…
Judi Dench, Barack Obama and Stephen Hawking.

Favourite place…
Tissington in the Derbyshire Dales where I learnt the art of survival.
