Someone sent me this message recently and it really did make me laugh out loud. We all know that feedback is a "gift" - yawn. We also know that the way in which feedback is given is enormously varied. I rather like this joke as it does overlay cultural stereotypes, but it got me thinking about the quality of feedback I give. Although I know the value and importance of giving (and receiving) feedback, I sometimes don't give it the care and attention it deserves. I occasionally fall into the trap of shying away from being more direct and clear and I often miss opportunities of giving positive feedback entirely.
I wonder what the world would be like if we were all just a little bit better at giving and receiving feedback. I'd love to hear your thoughts on great feedback practice.
